NERA Welcomes You Aboard! Print E-mail

uss new york1.jpgThe Naval Enlisted Reserve Association - NERA - is the only military and veterans organization representing the ENLISTED RESERVIST members of the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. We include retirees, Full-Time Support (FTS), drilling reservists and others joining as associate members supporting our enlisted sea service reservists. In more than 50 years, NERA has been responsible for many of the pay and benefits gains reservists enjoy today and take for granted.

Why NERA? Today, more than at any other time, Reserve Enlisted members are called upon more often to mobilize frequently to serve our nation. The challenges are many - strain on families, strain on civilian careers and an operational tempo for even "normal" reserve duties that exceed the conditions of less than 10 years ago.

Strength in numbers. NERA has been there on Capitol Hill, in the Pentagon and other policy making levels working hard for legislation to protect your benefits, your family, your health care and your retirement. Join us and ensure your voice is added to the many. Join us to continue the success and the fight to keep your benefits strong. We are your shipmates - your fellow veterans. NERA is about you - the working Sailor, Marine and Coast Guardsman.

NERA News

ATTENTION ALL CHIEFS!!
Attention, all CPO’s who have ever been stationed at Willow Grove, all CPO’s who have ever been to Willow Grove, all CPO’s who have ever wanted to be at Willow Grove and all CPO’s just looking for a good time with faces from the past; here’s the deal on closing down the Willow Grove CPOA “Backroom” – we can also call it a reunion:
Reply to:
WGCPOAreunion@verizon.net.  We request that you use only this address for all correspondence concerning this event

For those who don’t know, NAS Willow Grove is scheduled to be completely closed by Sep 2011.  The squadrons (VR-52 & VR-64) will be relocating to McGuire AFB in March 2011.  Being that the W.G. CPOA has been such a long-standing icon in the Naval Reserve community, we felt it was only proper to have a fair and decent CPOA shutdown weekend.

So, here’s the deal:
Dates:
29, 30 Apr & 1 May 2011 (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) (the date was chosen in hopes of the best weather)
Place:  NAS Willow Grove “Back Room” and the NAS Willow Grove ‘back 40’
Time:   Check-in registration will begin @1100 on Apr 29th at the back room but most of the day’s activities will be on the back 40.

An exact itinerary and cost per person has not yet been worked out and will be forwarded via separate correspondence.
Keep in mind that the base will be closed completely by Sep 2011 so many of the usual spots on base will be closed by the time we do this.  Some of these places include:
Navy Exchange, Navy Lodge, Orion’s (O Club) – no rooms available, Chapel, Auto Hobby Shop
Plan to obtain lodging off base as we can’t count on having any of the barracks available and no Navy Lodge.   We’ll pass info about local hotels and rates at a later date.
If you have a camper and want to bring that for your lodging, all campers will be setup on the back 40.  For those who haven’t been to Willow Grove in a while, the “back 40” is also what we call Camp Khaki.  It’s located on the back side of the base past the picnic pavilion and has been the site of our Initiation process for several years now.  There are no camper hook-ups there so plan accordingly (generators, water, etc.).  If you know now that you’ll be bringing a camper, please reply ASAP to the REPLY TO email address shown at the beginning and the end of this mail so we’ll have an idea as to how many campers to plan for.
We’re considering a golf outing on Saturday of that weekend, probably a 10AM shotgun.  To help us with the planning for this, if you think you would participate in golf, please reply ASAP to the REPLY TO email address shown at the beginning and the end of this mail.   The cost for the golf will be kept to a minimum.
The menu for food will include shrimp boils on the back 40 both Friday & Saturday nights.  Food will be contracted from a vendor and will be available both Friday and Saturday in addition to the shrimp boils which will be done by CPO’s (hint hint for T.O. & Rhino).  After all, who can do a shrimp boil better than a Chief?!?!?
If, at this point, you think you might be coming to the backroom shutdown/reunion, even though it’s more than a year away, please reply ASAP to the REPLY TO email address shown at the beginning and the end of this mail so we can get a ballpark figure as to how many people to plan for.
We’re looking forward to a great time with lots of laughs and practical jokes.
And finally, of course there will be a beer truck!!!!
