Those words, conceived by Fleet Admiral William Halsey, echoed through the passageways of the USS NEW JERSEY (BB-62)—often referred to as the “BIG J” or “BLACK DRAGON”— when myself and 33 other selectees had the opportunity to spend a few days onboard.
