TRICARE Open Season: How Does This Affect Me?
By Brendan Smith
TRICARE Open Season, which is the period when TRICARE beneficiaries can review options
for and make changes to their 2025 health plan, begins November 11, 2024. The last day to make
changes to your health plan is December 10, 2024, and the changes will be implemented starting
January 1, 2025. TRICARE Open Season applies to beneficiaries enrolled in or eligible for:
TRICARE Prime, U.S. Family Health Plan, TRICARE Prime Remote, TRICARE Prime
Overseas, TRICARE Prime Remote Overseas, TRICARE Select, or TRICARE Select Overseas.
During TRICARE Open Season, you can choose to remain in your current plan (in which case
you would not need to re-enroll), enroll in a plan for the first time, or change your plan (in which
case you would confirm your family’s information in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility
Reporting System). However, even outside of the aforementioned programs, beneficiaries living
in the TRICARE West Region (which, as of January 1, 2025, will include the following states:
AK, AZ, AR, CA, CO, HI, ID, IL, IA, KS, LA, MN, MS, MO, MT, NE, NV, NM, ND, OK, OR,
SD, TX, UT, WA, WI, WY) will need to provide payment information to TriWest Healthcare
Alliance between now and January 1, 2025. If payment information is not provided to this
region’s new contractor, you may be involuntarily disenrolled from TRICARE.
To make changes to your plan during TRICARE Open Season, beneficiaries in the East Region
should call Humana Military at (800) 444-5445, beneficiaries in the 2025 West Region should
call TriWest at (888) 874-9378, and beneficiaries overseas should update their plans online on
milConnect. For more information on TRICARE Open Season and making changes to your
TRICARE plan, visit tricare.mil/changes or the TRICARE Newsroom online.
