Additionally, the Selects had the honor of speaking with
several special guests, including former USS Cole CMC
(retired) James Parlier and Army Chief Warrant Office 5
Phillip Brashear, son of the renowned Master Chief Navy
Diver Carl Brasher.

Big J’s CPO Virtual Heritage Academy graduation cere-
mony rounded out the week’s events. Photos of each Select
were displayed along with a map showing their locations,
as their names were read to the tune of various sea shan-
ties, each Chief Select was officially welcomed to the leg-
acy of battleship leaders who have come before them.

This iteration of Big J’s CPO Heritage Academy set a new
training standard. Demonstrating the strength and per-
severance which has earned Navy Chiefs the title “back-
bone of the Navy.” This team of determined and dedi-
cated CPOs successfully adapted to these uncertain times
and taught the FY21 Chief Selects around the fleet that
when you have determined and devoted deckplate leaders,
nothing is impossible.
