Dear NERA Members,

Like most of you, I am stuck at home these days. During these difficult times, I am trying to adjust my routines. NERA has also
been trying to adjust and adapt as well. Luckily, NERA was ahead of the curve and had already gone virtual. The Headquarters
office was sold last year, and all of the staff works remotely. The NERA Executive Council lives all over the country, yet connects
virtually. We are still able to continue our work advocating for you, even if it is remotely for now. Our partnership with The
Military Coalition has been really successful. Did you know NERA and the TMC were able to win a 3.1% uniformed services
pay raise, the highest in a decade? We eliminated the “widows tax”—over the next three years—impacting more than 65,000
survivors. We were even able to stop any further TRICARE fee increases (beyond those already scheduled).

The more I talk to people and the more letters I read, I understand how important benefits or “bennies” are to NERA members.
One recent letter stated “Never did I imagine as I attended drills and active duty early in my Navy career, that the medical benefit
would save our family from financial devastation.” The younger Sea Service Reservists might not realize it now, but they need
organizations like NERA to fight for them behind the scenes.

Unfortunately, these strange times are making things difficult. Without the ability to meet face to face due to COVID-19
restrictions, NERA Chapters are not meeting regularly and traditional fundraisers are canceled. Recruitment of new members
is taking a hit. So, I am asking everyone to pitch in and help. NERA's mission is an important one. I know times are hard
everywhere, but if your budget allows, we would be appreciative of any size donation. If donating is not an option, consider
spreading the word about NERA and recruiting new members instead (socially distancing, of course).

Non sibi sed patriae. Not for self, but country.
