Dear Shipmates,

I was recently re-elected NERA President at our National Conference. The feeling at the conference was one of
hope and excitement. The attendees were thrilled to hear about the NERA Scholarship Program, where NERA was
able to fully fund five $2,000 awards and gave them to a very talented group of students. I am very honored to be
part of an organization that values hard work and furthering of education.

As positive and reinvigorating as the conference was, I did leave with two areas of concern: declining membership
and loss of sponsorship. As some of you may know, NERA’s major sponsor has decided to shift their sponsorship
donations away from military organizations. This has created an unexpected financial gap in all aspects of NERA. So,
if you enjoy reading the Mariner Magazine, want to contribute to the NERA scholarship fund or are just proud of
NERA’s mission of ensuring a strong and well-trained Navy, Coast Guard and Marine Corps Reserve, please help us.

I come to you asking for contributions this holiday season. Please donate any amount you feel comfortable
contributing. If donating is not an option, consider spreading the word about NERA and recruit new members
